The Township of Perth East is recruiting a student for the Pool Supervisor position with the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department at the Perth East Recreation Complex (“PERC”).
Reporting to the Manager of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, the Pool Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the Township's PERC pool and its programs, as well as the direct supervision of all Aquatic employees. The Pool Supervisor operates the pool within the budgets, objectives, policies and programs as outlined by the Manager, Parks, Recreation and Community Services
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, the Pool Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the Township's PERC pool and its programs, as well as the direct supervision of all Aquatic employees. The Pool Supervisor operates the pool within the budgets, objectives, policies and programs as outlined by the Manager, Parks, Recreation and Community Services
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safe, efficient and creative operation of the aquatics program and services to meet the needs of the participants.
- Maintain the operation of the aquatic facility in a safe and secure manner.
- Oversee that the standards of health and safety are observed according to the Ministry of Health Protection and Promotion Act; Reg. 565: Public Pools.
- Ensure that the policies and procedures outlined in the operations manual are being adhered to by all employees.
- Assist with opening the pool at the beginning of the season to include that operational, safety and equipment checks are completed prior to daily pool operation.
- Assign employee rotation and instruction schedule according to bather load requirements.
- Perform administrative duties such as scheduling, accident and incident reporting, reconciling and approving timesheets, program evaluations, staff evaluations, balancing of daily cash receipts and depositing all revenue per procedure.
- Ensure that the maintenance duties for pool operation such as backwashing, deck sweeping, cleaning change rooms and office, filter pressure and gauge readings, adding “make-up water”, inventory of equipment and chemical supplies, ensuring there is enough for maintenance purposes.
- Manage and tend to all emergency situations.
- Train, supervise and evaluate all Aquatic employees.
- Evaluate all Instructors’ core planning sheets and return them to the instructor by the 2nd lesson. Monitor core planning on a daily basis. Collect final lesson test sheets from staff. Check them for accuracy, and file.
- Review training schedules, evaluations, lesson plans and staff schedules with
Parks, Recreation & Community Services Manager. - Attend/Facilitate staff meetings and training sessions (including progress meetings with Manager).
- Organize and supervise special events and swim meets.
- Act as a positive role model for staff and be the liaison between the public, participants and staff.
- Wear proper Township uniforms while on duty (singlet, hat & whistle)
- Ensure that personal, and all Aquatic employee qualifications, remain current.
- Draft and submit a written report at the end of the season. The report will give a summary of the season and include recommendations for the next season.
- Other duties as assigned by the manager.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Current Lifesaving Society Swim (“LSS”) Instructor.
- Current National Lifeguard Service (“NL”).
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR C (Red Cross, Lifesaving Society, or St. John Ambulance).
- Minimum of three (3) years of aquatic experience
- Aquatic Supervisor Certification is an asset
- Supervisory experience is an asset
- Lifesaving and Aqua Fitness Instruction experience is an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, public relations/customer service skills
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, with the ability to function well under pressure
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a team.
Position Details:
- This is a seasonal position up to 40 hours per week. The schedule is varied and includes days, evenings and weekends.
- 2026 Hourly Pay Range: $22.03 - $27.54 per hour
