The Township of Perth East is recruiting for Lifeguards/Instructor(s) for the Perth East Recreation Complex (“PERC”) summer season.
 
Under the supervision of the Pool Supervisor, the Lifeguard/Instructor provides aquatic safety supervision through accident prevention and emergency response. The Lifeguard/Instructor provides instruction to patrons of all ages and provides a fun and creative aquatics environment for all participants.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for maintaining the highest safety standards at all times including facility and equipment safety checks, before and during shifts, and maintaining an alert position while on deck.
  • Lifeguarding as requested and assuming all responsibilities of a guard, including rotation through change rooms, equipment room and showers.
  • Performing maintenance and cleaning duties for pool operations such cleaning the bathrooms and change rooms, vacuuming the pool, sweeping the deck, performing chemical tests and reading, adding chemicals to the pool as required. 
  • Preparing creative and varied lesson and core plans for aquatic classes.
  • Submitting core planning sheets to the Pool Supervisor for review prior to start of lessons.
  • Attendance at all required training sessions and perform all skills to standard.
  • Responsible for deck cleanup at the end of each shift.
  • Performing administrative duties as assigned. 
  • Assisting in execution and supervision of special events including swim meets.
  • Acting as a positive representative of the Township of Perth East.
  • Demonstrating excellent customer service and public relation skills.
  • Completing all accident/incident reports as required.
  • Ensuring all personal aquatic qualifications remain current.
  • Following all policies and procedures outlined in the Aquatic Procedures Manual as well as knowing and memorizing safety and rescue procedures at the facility.
  • Arriving on time for all shifts, wearing proper uniform (shirt, bathing suit, whistle).
  • Following all Health and Safety policies and procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Must be sixteen (16) years of age by the start date.
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim (“LSS”) Instructor.
  • Current National Lifeguard Service (“NL”).
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C (Red Cross, Lifesaving Society, or St. John Ambulance).
  • Aqua Fitness Instructor certification is an asset.
  • Previous experience or participation in an aquatics program recommended.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, public relations/customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to function well under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
Position Details:
  • This is a seasonal position up 35 hours per week. The schedule is varied and includes days, evenings and weekends. 
  • 2025 Hourly Rate of Pay - $19.72- $24.65 per hour plus vacation pay
  • Position Duration: May 26, 2025 – August 30, 2025
  • In addition, all employees over the age of 18 must successfully pass a Criminal Background/Vulnerable Sector Check.
Competition closes at NOON on Friday, May 2, 2025.
