Library Caretaker/Cleaner

The Perth East Public Library is recruiting for one (1) Library Caretaker/Cleaner to assist with maintaining a safe and clean Library environment.  This part time permanent position will appeal to a motivated, detail oriented individual who enjoys cleaning.
Under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”), the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining standards of safety, cleanliness, general repair and attractiveness so that the Perth East Public Library (“PEPL”) is ready for use by the public and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Empties waste paper baskets and paper shredder containers;
  • Empties recycling;
  • Sweeps, vacuums, mops floors, dusts furniture and wipes counters;
  • Cleans and disinfects washrooms, restocking toilet paper, paper towels and soap dispensers;
  • Clean glass doors and sidelights;
  • Notifies Library CEO when cleaning supplies need restocked;
  • Ensures all equipment is operated safely;
  • Identifies and eliminates or reports any suspected safety hazards or equipment failures to Library CEO;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • One (1) year experience in caretaking/cleaning services considered an asset;
  • Valid G License
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods/chemicals and safe work practices required;
  • Ability to organize and take initiative;
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision;
Position Details:
  • Start Date:  Immediate
  • Hours of work: 5 hours/week – typically Fridays or Sundays (during Library closure)
  • Wage: Grade B: $17.41 - $20.26/hour
  • Optional enrollment into the OMERS Pension Plan
  • All employees over the age of 18 must successfully pass a Criminal Background/ Vulnerable Sector Check
